Lapochka is a Border Collie kennel in New South Wales, Australia. Border Collies have been part of our family since 1996 — dogs that work cattle on our property and hold their place in the show ring.

Our dogs are an important part of our lives. We value the Border Collie for its beauty, intelligence, athleticism and distinctive character, and these qualities shape the dogs we choose to live with and breed.

Over time, we are building the Lapochka line through the dogs we show, work and live with, with each generation contributing to what comes next.

The Story Behind Lapochka

Star Puppy with a member of the Lapochka family

In 1996, my husband brought home a Border Collie — his first. A few years later, she had a litter of her own, and it was one of her sons, a pup we called Star, who changed everything for me. There's a particular kind of dog that gets under your skin, and Star was mine.

We run cattle across our 100-acre property, and our Border Collies have always earned their keep out there — working stock, reading a mob, doing the job the breed was built for. The same dogs step into the show ring on the weekend, and to us, that's the whole point: a Border Collie shouldn't have to choose between looking the part and doing the work.

Lapochka became a registered kennel in 2022. Our first litter followed in 2024 — the beginning of a breeding program shaped by everything those cattle-working, ribbon-winning dogs taught us along the way.

Our Approach

A good Border Collie isn't made overnight, and we've never tried to rush one.

We look beyond the obvious. Structure, movement, temperament, instinct and working ability all matter, as does how a dog develops as it matures. We consider the pedigree behind each dog, what they can contribute, and how that fits into the direction we want the Lapochka line to take.

Not every promising puppy becomes a breeding dog, and not every good dog needs to be bred. Our decisions are made over time, with the aim of keeping the qualities we value and improving where we can.

Ultimately, we want dogs we're proud to live with — sound, capable, intelligent and unmistakably Border Collie.
